HAMILTON, Bermuda, October 23, 2026 -- PATRÓN® Tequila, the world's number one super-premium tequila*, is marking Día de Muertos in true Mexican spirit. To celebrate the holiday, which honors the lives of those who came before, PATRÓN will present La Última Risa — The Last Laugh — a one-night-only comedy show inspired by calaveritas literarias, one of the most playful and inventive ways Mexicans honor their family and friends.
La Última Risa will take over the legendary comedy club, The Stand, in New York City on November 2, the second day of Día de Muertos. The show draws on a custom that has long made room for humor alongside reverence. Each year, Mexicans write calaveritas literarias: short, witty verses in which La Muerte comes to collect friends and family, often for the very quirks that make them who they are. Like many Mexican traditions, calaveritas are passed down and made personal, each verse crafted with wit, creativity and a deep understanding of the people they celebrate.
Comedy trailblazer Sofía Niño de Rivera will headline the show. Niño de Rivera is a pioneer of Mexican stand-up and the first Mexican woman to release a Spanish-language comedy special on a major streaming platform, currently touring internationally with “Vacaciones de Sus Hijos.”
Niño de Rivera is joined by Jesus Trejo, Chingo Bling, Cris Sosa, and Jilberto Soto, with stand-up, actor, and writer Xazmin Garza hosting the 75-minute show. Like PATRÓN Tequila, all six comics have deep respect for their Mexican heritage and the traditions behind Día de Muertos. Each will take the calaveritas literarias beyond the page and onto the stage—where no tía, primo, or abuelo is safe.
“Día de Muertos is a time to celebrate the lives and legacies of those who came before us, while honoring the memories and connections that continue to live on,” said Roberto Ramirez-Laverde, Global Senior Vice President, PATRÓN Tequila. “With La Última Risa, PATRÓN is bringing that spirit of remembrance to life on stage through an evening of comedy, craft and culture. Legacy and tradition are at the heart of PATRÓN—from how we make our tequila to how we celebrate—and we’re proud to honor those roots while bringing a little piece of Mexico to New York for the night.”
Behind every bottle of PATRÓN Tequila is the same respect for Mexican tradition that shapes Día de Muertos. Exclusively produced in the Highlands of Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico, PATRÓN is made using time-honored Mexican techniques passed down through generations of tequila makers. Each batch is made with just three ingredients – the highest-quality 100% Weber Blue Agave, water and yeast – and is crafted by hand, time and time again, with care and intention. The result is a tequila that carries Mexico's heritage in every pour. In many ways, that same spirit is reflected in calaveritas literarias, where creativity and personal touch come together to honor the people and personalities that make each family unique. It’s a shared respect for tradition, craftsmanship and authenticity that connects the way PATRÓN makes tequila with the way Mexico celebrates Día de Muertos.
PATRÓN will invite a limited number of guests 21 or older to see Mexican tradition and comedy come to life at La Última Risa on November 2. Fans can also catch highlights from the night on PATRÓN Tequila’s social channels in the days after the show.
"Día de Muertos isn't just about missing the people who aren't around anymore," said headliner Sofía Niño de Rivera. "Calaveritas literarias are basically the original roast battle, and one of the best parts of the holiday is roasting your familia around the table over a good glass of tequila. Getting to do that in New York with PATRÓN, a tequila with deep roots in Mexico and real respect for the culture, means a lot.”
The last laugh isn't limited to New York. Fans can mark the day at home with a collection of Día de Muertos cocktails on patrontequila.com, including the Tía Mula, a bright, gingery take on the mule made with PATRÓN Silver and finished with a cempasúchil, the marigold that guides spirits home.
With La Última Risa, PATRÓN gives Día de Muertos the send-off it deserves. For one night in New York, La Muerte won't get the last laugh.
